Description
Ideal for tailgating or camping, the Sportsman 2,200 Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator has the power and flexibility. Safely charge and run your phone, computer, television and more using either unleaded gasoline or propane gas. With this Dual Fuel ability, you can use whichever fuel is more easily available or affordable. Also, it features sine wave power! Sine wave power delivers clean, stable and reliable power and makes it safe for use with sensitive electronics.
The 2200 surge watt, 1800 running watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator can be used as a portable power source at home, with the RV or camper, and while camping. The generator is equipped with two 120V AC outlets. Plus, it has one 12 volt DC outlet for battery charging, and a dedicated USB port for charging electronic devices.
With a 50 percent load, the Sportsman 2200 Watt Generator can run for 7 hours on a full tank of gasoline (one gallon). Also, it will run for 18 hours with a full tank of propane (the common gas grill type). A 5-foot propane fuel hose with regulator is included so you can get the generator up and running quickly and easily. The 3 HP engine is surprisingly quiet. It runs at less than 53 Db. An economy switch on the control panel automatically reduces engine speed. This occurs when loads are turned off or disconnected, saving energy and fuel.
This 2200 Watt Dual Fuel Inverter Generator also comes equipped with a parallel power port terminal. This allows the user to chain multiple generators together! It can increase the total output power by using a Parallel Power Kit (sold separately). When connected to another identical generator, the surge running watts will double!* This generator features CO WARNING, which will automatically shut-off if dangerous levels of CO are detected. CO is commonly referred to as Carbon Monoxide. Large amounts of Carbon Monoxide can overcome you in minutes without warning — causing you to lose consciousness and suffocate. If CO detector detects increasing levels of CO gas, it automatically shuts off the engine. CO detector will detect the accumulation of Carbon Monoxide from other fuel burning sources such as engine powered tools or propane heaters used in the area of operation. After a shut-off, a blinking RED light in the CO detector badge on the side of the generator provides notification that the generator was shut off due to an accumulating CO hazard. The RED light will blink for at least five minutes after a CO shut-off.

Finally, just remember that regular maintenance is crucial for optimal generator performance. I always read and follow the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule. This includes oil changes, filter replacements, and general inspections. This helps my generator last longer! Also, I want to emphasize that you must place it outdoors in a well-ventilated area. I will position it away from doors, windows, and vents to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. Plus, I recommend that you follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding fueling, grounding, and maintenance. In addition, I will use heavy-duty extension cords designed for generator use and avoid overloading them.
I recommend using an inverter generator because it offers several advantages. First, I notice a quieter operation compared to traditional generators, making it ideal for noise-sensitive environments. In addition, I know it will provides clean, stable power with low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). This is crucial for safely powering sensitive electronics like laptops and smartphones. I also recommend inverter generators because they are typically more fuel-efficient. They will run longer on less fuel and adjust their engine speed based on the load. Their compact and lightweight design enhances portability, making them easy to transport for camping or outdoor events.
Choosing a portable power generator for power outages involves considering various factors to ensure it meets your specific needs. I am providing a few key considerations:
- Power Requirements:
- First, determine the essential appliances and devices you want to power during an outage. Calculate the total wattage needed to run these items simultaneously. This helps me choose a generator with an adequate power capacity. In this case, I use a Wattage Guide to help me figure out the math!
- Generator Type:
- Portable generators come in different types, including inverter generators and conventional generators. Inverter generators provide clean and stable power, making them suitable for sensitive electronics. Conventional generators are generally more affordable but may produce less stable power.
- Fuel Type:
- Portable generators can run on various fuels, such as gasoline, propane, or both. With this in mind, I consider the availability and convenience of the fuel type in my area. By the way, gasoline is the most common, but it has a shorter shelf life than propane.
- Run Time:
- I check the generator’s run time on a single tank of fuel. This is crucial for extended power outages. Generators with a longer run time require less frequent refueling.
- Portability and Size:
- Consider the portability of the generator. Look for features like wheels and handles for easy transportation. What’s more, smaller and lighter generators are more convenient for home use.
- Noise Level:
- Generators can be noisy, so consider the noise level produced by the generator. For example, I look for models with lower decibel ratings because I live in a residential area.
- Start Mechanism:
- Generators can have manual recoil start or electric start mechanisms. Electric start generators are easier to start, but may require a battery, which needs periodic maintenance. In every situation, I choose a start mechanism that suits my needs.
- Ease of Maintenance:
- Consider the maintenance requirements of the generator. For example, I look for models with easy access to filters and oil changes. Under these circumstances, regular maintenance is essential for the generator’s longevity.
- Safety Features:
- In addition, I always check for safety features such as overload protection, low-oil shutoff, and GFCI outlets. These features help protect both the generator and connected devices.
- Budget:
- Finally, I recommend setting a budget for your generator purchase. Prices can vary based on features and capacity. For this reason, I suggest balancing your “requirements” with your “budget” to find the best generator for your needs.
