Using a chainsaw sharpener is a great way to maintain the cutting efficiency and safety of your chainsaw. Here’s my step-by-step guide on how to use a chainsaw sharpener:

  1. First thing to remember is Safety First: I always wear safety goggles and gloves to protect myself from potential flying debris.
  2. Secure the chainsaw: Next, I place the chainsaw in a vice or clamp it securely to a workbench to prevent movement during the sharpening process.
  3. Determine the chain size: I check the specifications of my chainsaw chain to ensure that I chose the correct file size for sharpening.
  4. I consult the chainsaw’s user manual for the correct angles and settings.
  5. Start sharpening: Finally, I hold the file against the cutter’s top plate at the predetermined angle. Then I push the file forward in smooth, even strokes, away from my body. Repeat this motion for each cutter on one side of the chain before moving to the other side.
